Costa Verde Express train: Northern Spain by comfort train

DAY 1: BILBAO - SANTANDER (Costa Verde Express train)

Flight or train to Bilbao on request.

Welcome at Bilbao station at 10 a.m.
Board the Costa Verde Express comfort train and meet the crew.
After settling into your cabin, your guide will take you on a panoramic tour of the city and a visit to the Guggenheim Museum. Back on board, enjoy your meal as the Costa Verde heads for Santander.
In the afternoon, visit Santandere and its bay, considered one of the most beautiful in the world, then free time.
Dinner at a restaurant in town
Overnight in Santander on the Costa Verde Express train (DJ, dinner at restaurant).

DAY 2: SANTANDER - LLANES

Breakfast on board as the Costa Verde Exress arrives in Cabezón de la Sal.
A tourist coach will take you to visit the neo-grotto of Altamira, which contains one of the most important pictorial ensembles of prehistoric times, as well as the medieval town of Santillana del Mar, voted the most beautiful town in Spain.
Lunch in Santillana del Mar.
Back on the train, we head for Asturias, to Llanes, a charming port town with a rugged coastline.
Dinner on board and overnight in Llanes on the train (PDJ, DJ, DI).

DAY 3: LLANES - OVIEDO

Morning excursion by coach to Cangas de Onís, once the capital of Asturias in the 8th century.
We enter the heart of the Picos de Europa, the highest massif in the Cantabrian mountain range, to visit the Covadonga sanctuary, its basilica and grotto - a major pilgrimage site - and the magnificent Lake Enol.
Back on the train, you head for Oviedo, the capital of Asturias, enjoying lunch on board.
Visit Oviedo, famous for its Gothic cathedral.
Dinner and overnight in Oviedo on board the train (PDJ, DJ, DI)

DAY 4: OVIEDO - LUARCA

After breakfast, departure for Gijón, a dynamic city open to the sea.
Enjoy free time to discover this old port city renowned for its culinary specialties: fabada (cassoulet), Asturian potée and cachopos.
After lunch in Gijon, return to the train and depart for Luarca. Visit this peaceful village of whitewashed houses or take a stroll from La Atalaya chapel to the lighthouse.

DAY 5: LUARCA - VIVEIRO

Breakfast on board as your train heads for Ribadeo, the town that links Galicia and Asturias.
Visit and free time in this town famous for its gastronomy and traditional music.
Lunch in Ribadeo.
In the afternoon, take the train back to Viveiro for a visit of this town with its medieval walls and rich artistic heritage.

DAY 6: VIVEIRO - SAINT JACQUES DE COMPOSTELLE

Last breakfast on board the Costa Verde Express train, the train arrives in Ferrol.
You take leave of the train crew and continue by coach to the Galician capital, Santiago de Compostela. Visit this city famous for its cathedral and UNESCO-listed historic center.
Lunch at the Parador Reyes Católicos, where we leave around 4 pm.

Additional night in Santiago de Compostela, transfer, return flight from Santiago de Compostela on request.

All train compartments are identical. These are beautiful, historic suites, decorated with wood panelling, creating a peaceful, comfortable atmosphere.

Each room has a double bed (1.20 m x 1.85 m), desk, closet, luggage compartment, minibar and safe. They are air-conditioned and feature a full private bathroom with hairdryer and toiletries.

• Lounge cars

The lounge cars of the Costa Verde Express train are elegant communal areas where you can enjoy your breakfast, lunch or dinner prepared by the chef. You can also enjoy a drink in the bar car or chat with fellow passengers in the common rooms. And if you'd like to spend some festive time on the train, you can take advantage of the pub car, where small events and music are offered every evening.
